In 2008, Esther made a decision that would change her life forever. She joined a local savings group, seeking a way to improve her financial situation and create a better future for her family. This initial step was the beginning of a remarkable journey marked by perseverance, community support, and transformative growth.

Esther’s first savings group, Maboresho, operated independently, providing members with a modest means to save and access small loans. However, after a few years it broke up due to poor leadership and non-repayment of loans. This did not dampen Esther’s resolve to save and she formed a new group, Lanta, which is still going strong today. While the impact was significant, the group's potential was limited by the resources available to them. This changed in 2019 when Esther's savings group became part of the  Karimu project which provided the group with training and supervision. Her group later joined the  federation at Ayalagaya ward in Babati district. Esther was elected as one of three representatives of the Lanta group to the federation.

The integration into the Karimu project marked a new chapter for Esther and her fellow group members. Through the federation, they gained access to larger, low-cost loans that were previously out of reach.

One of Esther's proudest achievements since joining the Karimu project has been her ability to send her two children to college. This was a dream she had nurtured for years, but seemed unattainable before the support from the federation. The affordable loans enabled her to cover tuition fees and other educational expenses, ensuring her children could pursue their academic goals without financial hindrance.

In addition to supporting her children's education, Esther also realized a personal dream of owning a home. With careful planning and the financial resources made available through her savings group, Esther was able to build a house that stands as a testament to her hard work and determination. Her new home is more than just a shelter; it symbolizes the stability and security she has achieved through her participation in the Karimu project.

Esther’s journey is a shining example of the impact that community-based financial programs can have on individual lives. As we are walking back from her house she shows us a plot of land and says wistfully, "I had to sell this acre of land back when I didn’t know about savings groups. My daughter fell ill and I had no other option but to sell. If I had my group then, things would have been different. I am incredibly proud to be part of Karimu's savings groups' program. It has empowered me to achieve dreams I once thought were impossible. The support and opportunities provided by Karimu have transformed not only my life, but also the future of my children."

Esther's story is a powerful testament to the strength of collective effort and the profound changes that can occur when individuals are given the tools and support to succeed. Her achievements inspire others in her community to join savings groups and take control of their financial futures. Through the Karimu project, Esther and many others continue to build better lives, proving that with determination and the right support, anything is possible.
