School Wisdom Wall - Project Fuel

Documenting and celebrating village wisdom through visual arts/murals

The project aims to highlight and showcase local culture and teach students a multi-step design process. Children research family stories through personal interviews resulting in the collective life lessons and wisdom of their community. Then, in accordance with the style and the culture of the region, the layout of a mural is designed by Project Fuel artists. Together, the children and Project Fuel volunteers paint the masterpiece on the walls of the village.

This pilot program challenged students and teachers in an unexpected way. Students were given the freedom to think freely and creatively as there was no expected outcome or right answer. This experience has ignited keen interest in the educational approach and how it might be incorporated into the daily classrooms. We hope to be able to fully fund this for the schools in the future.
