Expanding Ayalagyaa Secondary and High School

Success Means More Students!

Ayalagaya Secondary and High School has achieved remarkable academic success thanks to strategic investments in infrastructure and educational resources. This transformation—including new classrooms, dormitories, a dining hall, bathrooms and sanitation system, an electrical system, and a kitchen, as well as desks, books, and additional teaching staff—was made possible through a strong partnership between Karimu and the local community.

The school is now recognized as a top-performing institution in the Manyara Region and across the country. Enrollment continues to grow every year, particularly among advanced high school students, as the government introduces additional subjects that attract ambitious learners. This success has created a ripple effect, motivating local primary school students to excel in hopes of joining Ayalagaya.

However, this growing demand has also created a critical challenge: a shortage of classroom space. The last classroom project completed at Ayalagaya High School was the Physics and Biology lab in 2022. At the time enrollment was 849 students. Since then there has been a 67% increase in student enrollment! Karimu also requires excellent operations from schools to receive additional donations. For 2025 in the case of Ayalagaya:

  • Students passing the national exams was 100%

  • Student attendance was 93%

  • Students received meals 99% of the time

  • Bathroom cleanliness and provision of cleaning and menstrual supplies were 100%

  • Annual hygiene training was completed

  • Average days to fix maintenance issues was 4 days with over 99% of the issues self-identified

To ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed, Karimu and the community are committed to constructing five new classrooms and one office.

The community is providing cash payments of $3,995 as well as clearing the land and digging the foundation.
